Sose Vardanian (1868-1953): Affectionately labelled “Mayrig” (mother) by otherFedayi’s, she is famous for having fought as a Fedayi alongside her husband,Aghpyur Serop. A member of the ARF, she moved to Alexandria following theSoviet’s annexation of Armenia, where she died in 1953.
Zabel Yessayan (1878-1943): One of the most prominent Armenian womenwriters, she wrote several novels, memoirs and had articles published in many ofthe Ottoman-Armenian newspapers of her time. "I stand by my words. And even more, I stand by my right to say them." On this day 10 years ago, January 19, 2007, Turkish-Armenian editor and journalist, Hrant Dink was assassinated in Istanbul. Today we remember his constant fight for the Armenian cause and his never ending sacrifice towards justice for our people. #HrantDink
Your 2017 Central Executive kicked off their first meeting with a lot of planning for a successful year ahead and of course, a CElfie.

#ArtsakhStrong On April 17, 1993, under the fire of Azerbaijani air attacks, Shahen Megherian was killed.Megherian embodied the spirit of the Armenian volunteer organizer, the skilled soldier and fearless leader. Shahen Megherian: born in the Shahoumian region in Artsakh on January 2, 1952. Shahan studied economics at Yerevan State University then returned to Gyulistan and became the Chief Economist of Manufacturing and Production in the Shahoumian region and later a food provider for his village. He also became the President of Agricultural and Production Management. In 1991, Shahen was elected as acting president of the Shahoumian Committee and took on command of the Mardagerd regiment. He was also a proud member of the ARF and attended the organization’s 25th General Assembly. In the early stages of the liberation struggle, Megherian and his band of guerilla fighters would penetrate enemy lines, carrying out irregular warfare in an attempt to liberate Armenian lands from Azeri occupation. Two weeks before his death, Megherian’s home village, Gyulistan, was liberated as a first step towards the liberation of the Shahoumian region.

World travels, favorite destination: Armenia.
Applications for the 2017 AYF Internship are now up on ayf.org!Rachael;"the ayf internship changed my life and my perspective. meeting Armenians from around the world, seeing all the places I had only ever heard about or seen in pictures, and giving back to my homeland through volunteer work was so surreal. go on ayf internship if you want to have the most unforgettable summer of your life"
Applications for the 2017 AYF Internship are now up on ayf.org!Karoun: "What can I say? This is the place where friends became family. Where my passion for my identity grew, and my desire to return home even stronger."
Since 1948, dedicated to exploring issues dedicated to Armenia and Armenians. Editor: Dr. Asbed Kotchikian, Managing Editor: Dr. Dikran Kaligian #Armenian
Tsoline:Make new friends, live in Armenia, and get accustomed to the way of life in your own homeland; why wouldn't you do that? The internship changed my life and I guarantee it'll change yours too. It's a summer I wouldn't have changed and wouldn't trade for the world.
Applications for the 2017 AYF Internship are now up on ayf.org!Areknaz:Why did I LOVE the AYF Internship? It gave me the opportunity to experience Armenia and find it to be more amazing than I ever could have imagined!! This was my first time visiting Armenia, and prior to the summer I had always been suspicious that people spoke so highly of the country or their experiences because it is our homeland. You are SUPPOSED to like it, hence, you talk about how great it is. During my two months there I was happily proved wrong…it really is as amazing as people say, in fact, words and pictures will never do it justice, you really have to go and see for yourself!! The history comes to life in the churches, monuments, museums, cities, and villages. Yerevan is an amazing city full of new friends, good music, delicious food, ice cream on every street corner, and a place where time does not matter so much and you can enjoy life around you! Plus, on top of all this is an internship experience! My internship helped me to decide the direction I plan to go after college and it would have been difficult to find a company in the US to allow me to do they type of work that I did!
#AYFInternship in #Armenia applications are available now at ayf.org! Be sure to sign up for a summer to remember!

Today marks the 27th anniversary of the Spitak earthquake that shook Armenia and claimed the lives of tens of thousands. Nearly three decades later, many residents are homeless and don't have the support they need. Rebuilding the Shirak region has been difficult due to a stagnant economy, and poverty rates are extremely high as a result. While we remember the victims of the earthquake, we must not forget that Armenians struggle to live their lives there even today. #Armenians #Spitak

It was very touching to see how much we meant to the people of Dzalka and how appreciated our volunteer work was. In Javakhk, I really felt like I was making a difference. "At Tumo, I felt that I was helping kids to discover more about music and to engage with it in new ways, rather than just lecturing them. This was a more rewarding way for us to teach and was a more engaging way for students to learn. On top of the unconventional structuring and atmosphere of Tumo, there is also the Armenian aspect. The students incorporate aspects of Armenian culture into their work, which strengthens and advances our culture by maintaining it and adapting it." — U. Until you experience it for yourself, Armenia will remain an idea. And very rarely do tourists get a true, in-depth glimpse of what the country is all about. The best way to experience the real Armenia is to live there, work there, and even play there; not just visit tourist attractions for a week or two. The AYF Internship program exposes Diasporans to that real Armenia, and gives them the chance to fall in love with its beauty and hospitality, and even its flaws and imperfections. So if you want to fall in love with Armenia, where you'll drink its waters and climb its mountains, all while lending a helping hand, then it's time to apply for the 2013 AYF Internship in ArmeniaApply today.Application deadline: April 1.Visit www.ayf.org/programs/internship to apply.

Yesterday, the world lost a wonderful man. Mal Varadian was not only a role model to his family and friends, but he also touched the lives of countless others, including AYFers. He was a staple of the Providence community, yet his name elicits strong emotions anywhere it’s spoken. Uncle Mal was a leader, a listener and an influential man to many of us. We appreciate and honor everything he has done for the AYF, and we know his impact will continue to be felt for many years to come. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Mal Varadian. We thank you for all you’ve done. We'll keep making it better than it was.

On January 14, 1933, the Armenian Youth Federation was born.On this date, 79 years ago, the ARF Central Committee of America decided to unify existing youth groups scattered across the country and build the groundwork for a national Armenian youth organization. The legendary Armenian hero General Karekin Njdeh was soon invited to the US to serve as a fieldworker to mobilize the communities around the idea of a consolidated youth movement. He toured the country from city to city, town to town, encouraging the masses to join the ranks of the soon to be established AYF. With his magnetic oratory and inspirational presence, hundreds of youth flocked to hear his appeals and apply to become part of the first generation of the AYF.79 տարիներ առաջ ծնաւ Հայ Երիտասարդաց Դաշնակցութիւնը: Այսօր, ՀՅԴ Երիտասարդական Միութիւնները կը գործեն Հայաստանի եւ արտերկրի 17 երկրներու մէջ, ինչպէս` Լիբանան, ԱՄՆ, Գանատա, Արգենտինա, Ֆրանսա, Յունաստան, Ռուսաստան, Կիպրոս եւ այլուր: Կեցցէ՛ Դաշնակցական Երիտասարդութիւնը Գարեգին Նժդեհ - Garegin Njdeh
