The AYF-YOARF Eastern Region is incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Maral Melkonian Avetisyan (1983-2015), an AYF alumni and young member of the Armenian community in Washington, D.C. Maral was a former AYF Internship in Armenia director and was active in Homenetmen and Birthright Armenia as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, especially her husband, Tigran Avetisyan. Maral was dedicated, bright, and full of life. She represented so much of what we hold dear, and her spirit will live on in those she has touched. Maral had this to say about the AYF Internship in Armenia as director back in 2007:"I so enjoyed being able to share with my AYF interns the excitement of building their own experience as they embarked on their own journey to Armenia...The past two months afforded me ample opportunity to work closely with the interns and witness them discover the importance of their presence in Armenia, but mostly the meaning of the present time in Armenia's modern day history."The AYF Eastern Region will honor Maral's words and spirit as we continue our efforts to enhance the Armenian cause.
