Mourning the Loss of Unger Hrach Mouradian

The AYF-YOARF Eastern Region mourns the loss of Unger Hrach Mouradian, the mayor of the village of Broshyan and a fellow ARF unger who was murdered on April 2, 2013. Mouradian was 50 years old and had been mayor since 2005.

The AYF stands with its fellow ungers in condemning violent acts against innocent leaders, which is exactly what Unger Mouradian was. He committed his life to the independence of Artsakh and fought in the front lines of the Karabakh war. From day one, he has served his country with pride and has been a respectable leader for all to admire.

We send our sincere condolences to Unger Mouradian’s family and the Broshyan community. This tragedy has struck a chord with the entire Armenian community, from our homeland to here in the United States. We join with others in remembering this brave leader of the Armenian cause, and we seek justice in the name of Hrach Mouradian.

The Central Executive calls on all AYF-YOARF chapters to hold moments of silence in their communities, whether at a chapter meeting or at your local April 24 event, to remember Unger Hrach. There will also be a moment of silence at Junior Educational Weekend on April 20, 2013.

Founded in 1933, the Armenian Youth Federation is the largest and most influential Armenian American youth organization in the United States, working to advance the social, political, educational and cultural awareness of Armenian-American youth.
