Standing United with the People’s Movement of Armenia

The citizens of the Republic of Armenia have demanded their voices be heard and their votes be upheld from the February 18 presidential elections. Now, on April 9, the people of Armenia are actively engaged in Serge Sarkisian’s inauguration and Raffi Hovannisian’s alternative inauguration.

In Yerevan, Hovannisian proclaimed the people’s victory by declaring the February elections unconstitutional and by rejecting the current government. At the same time, Sarkisian took his oath of office at the Karen Demirchian Sports Complex and pledged to uphold the constitution of the Republic of Armenia.

Supporters of Hovannisian planned a march down Baghramyan Avenue on Tuesday but were banned by police. Riot police used force to stop opposition leader Hovannisian and thousands of his supporters from marching toward Tsitsernakaberd via Baghramyan Avenue.

Our homeland can only be prosperous if we have a government that reflects the will of its people. The Armenian Youth Federation, Eastern Region USA stands with our brothers and sisters in demanding that the constitutional rights of its citizens be respected and upheld.

The people are united in the fight for a common goal. As youth of the Diaspora, it is our responsibility to fight for our homeland and its future however we can. The fight to maintain a vibrant and productive Republic of Armenia is not an easy one, but it is one which we take very seriously. The AYF-YOARF is determined to work toward a bright present and future for Armenia and for all Armenians across the globe.

The people of the Diaspora need to unite, like those in Armenia, to convey a strong and clear message to the current, falsely elected government of Armenia.

Founded in 1933, the Armenian Youth Federation is the largest and most influential Armenian American youth organization in the United States, working to advance the social, political, educational and cultural awareness of Armenian-American youth.
