Going With the Flow in Armenia – U. Faye Khatchadourian

Going with the flow in Armenia

By Faye Khatchadourian

As I continue my adventure here in Armenia I realize that I have to adapt to the realities of everyday life in my new home here in beautiful Yerevan.

After a few weeks of working and visiting the sites, we came home the other day to find out that there was no running water. People here don’t get too excited about such things even though they may lose water without any warning.  When we called the Yerevan water hotline they were unable to let us know when the water would be back on. So after the initial surprise we came to realize that, just like everyone else, we had to make the best of it. We did for the three days that it lasted. In the end we survived this little ordeal and were overjoyed and relieved to have our water back on.

Throughout my stay in Armenia not only do I learn about my culture and my past, but I come across people who are just as interested as I am in learning about their heritage. During my time here I have met many people who have become close friends and who want to contribute in any capacity in helping our homeland. We get to share these amazing experiences and memories with one another and with our families and friends back home. Every day I meet someone new and I know that though we come from different parts of the world these friendships will continue to thrive. Armenia, our beautiful homeland, will keep bringing us together.  It is heartwarming to see so many individuals come together to share, learn, and collaborate. The people of Armenia have welcomed us into their homes and their lives. They have enriched our lives by sharing their everyday traditions and customs. I am very proud of my heritage and to be part of such a rich culture.
